CYS Leaders Complete I
ntensive 10-day Facility Directors Course
The MG Robert M. Joyce MWR Academy recently concluded a successful Child and Youth Services Facility Directors Course, bringing together a diverse group of leaders from 18 different Army installations. The intensive 10-day residential course provided directors of Child Development Centers, School-Age Childcare, and Middle School/Teen Facilities with a comprehensive, strategic perspective on managing high-quality programs that serve Army families. Designed to empower new directors, the curriculum focused on honing essential leadership, management, and operational skills. Participants engaged in a curriculum rich with topics on facility operations, situational leadership, strategic communication, financial management, and personnel management. Through practical instruction, case studies, and collaborative exercises, the directors developed strategies to lead effective teams, improve facility operations, and foster a positive work climate. A key focus of the course was creating a Continuous Quality Improvement Plan, equipping each leader with the tools to drive meaningful and lasting improvements back at their home facility.
NAF Financial Managers from Around the World Complete Immersive MWR Training
From February 9-13, a dedicated group of 24 Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Financial Managers from garrisons across the globe, plus a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and HQ IMCOM DFMWR FM, for a total of 26 students, convened for an intensive training course. The five-day program provided a hands-on, interactive experience designed to sharpen their skills in managing the complex finances of MWR programs.
Throughout the week, participants were immersed in the daily life of a Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Financial Manager. The course utilized a functional, interactive approach, presenting the attendees with multiple real-world scenarios they would encounter in their roles. This method allowed them to move beyond theory and actively apply their knowledge to practical challenges in financial analysis, internal controls and strategic management.
